How-To Guide for Fraction Overlay Games: Application Through Hands-On Learning

Purpose

The Fraction Overlay Games: Application Through Hands-On Learning games are a supplemental math fluency practice resource designed to elevate student confidence and mastery of fractions. This collection features ten hands-on activities designed for two or more players, all standards-aligned and built specifically for the Math-U-See Fraction Overlays.

While these games utilize the overlays, they also integrate printable Fraction Number Cards and Fraction Picture Cards to bridge the gap between visual models and abstract numbers. By engaging with these activities, students don’t just “do math”—they dive into strategic thinking, articulate their logical reasoning, and discover the beautiful patterns within the fraction system. These activities serve as a powerful companion to (not a replacement for) your core curriculum. Specifically designed to enhance Math-U-See Epsilon, each game targets a unique skill. Refer to our suggested incorporation of these activities in the Course Overview to effectively reinforce your student’s progress.
