Plotting Fractions on a Number Line

Follow Steps 1–3 in your Online Lesson to create a number line and plot the following fraction. Use the example from the lesson as a guide.

Step 1:

Draw a horizontal line with the numbers 0 and 1 labeled, since this value is between 0 and 1.

Step 2:

Divide the space between 0 and 1 into three equal spaces. Each space is one-third of 1.

Step 3:

Plot $\frac{1}{3}$ on the first point between 0 and 1.

Plotting Mixed Numbers on a Number Line

Follow Steps 1–3 in your Online Lesson to create a number line and plot the following mixed number. Use the example from the lesson as a guide.

Step 1:

Draw a horizontal line with the numbers 5 and 6 labeled, since this value is between 5 and 6.

Step 2:

Divide the space between 5 and 6 into four equal spaces. Each space is one-fourth of the value between 5 and 6.

Step 3:

Plot $5\frac{3}{4}$ on the third point between 5 and 6.
